Two kinds of fear

A conqueror frightens you with scale: infinite versions, infinite armies. A monarch frightens you with proximity: he already runs a country, already has a claim, already believes he is the hero. The saga swapped one fear for the other, and the storytelling got sharper for it.

The family angle

The strongest Marvel finales are family arguments with cosmic consequences. Reading the coming conflict as a dispute between people who used to be on the same side explains almost every casting decision announced so far.
